Cherie Hurwitz

Cherie Hurwitz has worked in new media and entertainment for over 10 years. Most recently she was Vice President, Entertainment at Buzznet where she designed and developed the strategy for a social media network around users’ passion for movies. While at Buzznet, she developed partnerships and promotions around movies such as “I’m Not There” and the MTV Movie Awards.

Prior to Buzznet, Cherie was the Senior Product Manager for Yahoo! Movies. Under her leadership Yahoo! Movies launched the largest high-definition trailer library on the web, developed the most-visited Academy Awards site on the internet and tripled Yahoo! Movies’ revenue from its seasonal guides.

While managing the daily operations of Yahoo! Movies, she also helped deliver Yahoo!-wide campaigns around titles such as “Mission Impossible III” and “Transformers”.

Prior to Yahoo!, Cherie was at Sony Pictures, managing a film and television download service for their digital division. From 2001 to 2003 Cherie developed original branded gaming concepts such as Boxer Boogie Breakdown for Joe Boxer and Disc Dogger for Chrysler, while at YaYa.

She also spent a few years at USWeb (marchFIRST) developing communities around online versions of popular NBC TV shows, such as “The Pretender Adventure” and “Homicide: Second Shift” – these sites were arguably some of the first examples of cross-platform storytelling and social media on the web.

Cherie has a passion for all things film and television. She holds a first class honors degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Cape Town and currently resides in Los Angeles.
